Our commodities
Iron ore
Our iron ore is extracted through open-pit mining operations in the Northern Cape province in South Africa. The Khumani Iron Ore Mine is near Kathu, while the Beeshoek Iron Ore Mine is outside Postmasburg.
The ore produced is sold both on the export market and locally.
Manganese ore
The Nchwaning and Gloria mines, in the Black Rock area of the Northern Cape province in South Africa, extract various grades of manganese ore.
Manganese alloys
High-Carbon ferromanganese is produced at Cato Ridge, KwaZulu Natal in South Africa and at Sakura in the Sarawak province of Malaysia.
Medium-carbon ferromanganese is produced by Cato Ridge Alloys at the Cato Ridge smelting works
Chrome ore
Chrome ore is mined at the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine, located near Lydenburg and Steelpoort in the Limpopo province of South Africa.
Typically, the bulk of chrome ore extracted is converted into ferrochrome to produce stainless steel.
Pyrophyllite
Located just outside Ottosdal in the North-West Province of South Africa, Pyrophyllite is extracted at the Wonderstone mine.
Assore has been mining pyrophyllite from Wonderstone for nearly 90 years. Volcanic in origin, Pyrophyllite displays unique thermal, insulating and pressure-resistant properties.
